This parsha is also a new beginning - it contains the first mitzvah that was given to the Jewish people - kiddush hachodesh (sanctifying the new month).
This shiur was also given on Rosh Chodesh (new month) of Shevat, which (according to Beit Shammai) is the New Year for trees.
So lots of beginnings, and a shiur on the power of renewal and the importance of stumbling and falling in order to begin again and to grow.

ReplyDeleteI think that when mashiach comes, he will fulfill the nevu'os in ways that would never cross our minds today, but in retrospect would make it obvious that's what was meant.
I mention this because this is what happened with "paqod paqadti" (where I am up to in the recording as I write this comment). Think about it, there was a tradition that the one HQBH sends to save them will save these word -- so of course any pretender to the role (malicious or accidental) would also say those words!
Then comes a man with burnt lips. The Maharal says Moshe couldn't say the sounds of the letters BUMa"F (beis, vav/waw, mem and pei/fei), since those involve the lips. In normal discource, Moshe couldn't possibly have said "paqod paqadti" clearly. And when he miraculously did, Benei Yisrael then understood the true meaning of the prophecy. And it was an obvious sign in a way they couldn't have seen coming.
